IFG's Scott Heising On Building Scale Without Losing Independence

Founder & CEO, IFG

Consolidation is reshaping independent wealth management from both directions. Advisors continue to seek greater independence while many of the firms serving them are getting larger, taking outside capital or becoming part of larger enterprises. Mike Papedis speaks with Independent Financial Group's Scott Heising about what independence means in that environment, how firms can achieve scale without sacrificing advisor autonomy, and the choices leaders face as they balance growth, resources and control.

Mike's Perspective

Scale and independence do not have to be opposing forces. The real question is what an advisor still controls as the organization around them gets larger. Capital, technology and infrastructure can create enormous leverage, but only if growth preserves meaningful choice, ownership and autonomy for the advisor.

BridgePort's Clara Sierra On Scale, Culture And Building Durable RIAs

Managing Director, BridgePort Financial Solutions

As independent RIAs grow, the challenge increasingly shifts from accumulating assets to building businesses that can endure beyond their founders. Mike Papedis speaks with BridgePort Financial Solutions Managing Director Clara Sierra about scaling without sacrificing culture, what advisors increasingly expect from capital and operating partners, and the leadership, succession and operating disciplines that help transform a growing practice into a durable enterprise.

When You Build a Better Team, Clients Will Follow

Managing Partners, Seven Bridges Wealth Advisors

Why the single-advisor model has a structural flaw most clients never notice until it's too late — and how team-as-product is winning the next generation of HNW clients.

Mike's Perspective

The single-advisor model isn't just a capacity problem — it's a structural risk that clients are starting to recognize before advisors do. When affluent families sit across the table and see a team of specialists instead of one person trying to cover every base, the conversation changes. The firms that are winning the next generation of HNW clients aren't the ones with the best individual advisor. They're the ones where the team is the product.

Rethinking Annuities in Modern Advisory Models

President, Individual Solutions, Corebridge Financial

Why the most sophisticated RIAs are revisiting annuities — not as a product sale, but as a planning tool — and what that shift means for how advisors build and price their practices.

Mike's Perspective

The advisors who are winning the planning conversation aren't the ones who avoided annuities — they're the ones who figured out when they actually solve a problem. If you're dismissing an entire category of planning tools because of how they were sold twenty years ago, you're not being sophisticated. You're being reactive. The question isn't whether annuities belong in a plan. The question is whether you understand them well enough to know when they do.
